It’s More Than Speech was founded with a simple yet important goal: to provide meaningful, family-centered therapy that supports children far beyond the walls of a clinic. What began in 2017 with one client and a passion for helping others has grown into a thriving, multi-provider team serving families across Eagle River, Wasilla, and beyond.

Andrea, our founder, took on her first private client in December 2017 - supporting a teen recovering from a brain aneurysm. In early 2018, she was encouraged to expand, taking on additional clients and renting space inside a local PT/OT clinic. By the end of 2019, the vision had grown into its own 900-square-foot office with a website and the beginnings of a broader community impact.

When the COVID-19 pandemic hit in 2020, our team didn’t slow down. We pivoted to online services, hired dedicated staff, and moved into a new office space—all while maintaining care and continuity for our clients. That same year, we launched our first preschool and elementary-aged summer social and reading programs, which continue to grow today.

By 2021, we welcomed our first graduate student intern and hired our first clinical fellow, laying the foundation for a strong, permanent team. The following year, we expanded services to Wasilla, and in 2023, we moved into a 2,500-square-foot location with access to outdoor space and room to grow.

Today, It’s More Than Speech proudly offers speech therapy, educational support and social communication groups in a warm, collaborative environment. We are a mission-driven team dedicated to functional outcomes, strong relationships, and making a lasting difference in the lives of the children and families we serve.

As we look ahead, our commitment remains rooted in supporting every child’s potential, empowering families, and building a stronger, more connected community, one voice at a time.
